Replacing the oil filter in VAG Master

Replacing the oil filter is a mandatory part of maintenance, which should always be carried out together with changing the engine oil. A clogged filter does not cope with its task and lets dirty oil pass through the cleaning, which accelerates engine wear. The dashboard does not warn about this problem, so do not delay – protect your engine in advance.

The service is relevant both for a new car with unpolished parts and for engines whose parts are on the verge of exhausting their resource. Most cars can be serviced according to the maintenance schedule, taking into account the intensity of the car’s operation. We recommend changing the oil on time! After all, replacing the filter and oil helps to avoid expensive overhauls:

• With clean oil, the engine heats up less

Oil filters for different car models are different. They come in two types

• Non-disassembly. The metal body of this filter is one-piece – it is removed together with the filter element inside. These devices are more expensive because they are easier to replace: you just unscrew the worn part and install a new one in its place. Non-separable filters are more difficult to dispose of and are less environmentally friendly, but this type is the most common. Most of these parts are similar and interchangeable. Almost all of them are cleaned mechanically – using special paper or cardboard, they filter out dirt, but the oil passes through the pores.

• Dismountable. This part has access to the filter element – it is it that needs to be changed, while the housing remains in the filter seat. These devices are cheaper – in fact, only a cartridge with a filter curtain is sold. But it is not so convenient to install: each time you need to disassemble the structure, wash the housing and other reusable parts from grease and dirt, and then assemble everything back before installing the filter.

The process of replacing the oil filter and engine oil

No matter what brand your car is and how old it is, replacing the engine oil is always carried out in the same sequence:

• we select the appropriate fluid, based on the recommendations of the car manufacturer;
• we warm up the engine;
• we place a container under the engine crankcase plug and unscrew the cap;
• we wait about five minutes for the oil to drain;
• we assess the condition of the fluid;
• if there is no need to clean the engine, the oil filter is replaced;
• we fill in fresh oil.

Service or self-replacement?
